Become a Qualified Trainer: My Coaching Journey
Becoming a qualified trainer is not just a career choice; it’s a transformative journey that reshapes your understanding of personal development and leadership. As I reflect on my path, I realise how pivotal each step has been in shaping my skills and philosophy as a coach. This post will take you through my coaching journey, the challenges I faced, the lessons I learned.

The Beginning: Discovering My Passion for Coaching
From an early age, I have always been passionate about sports, and helping others has been one of my interests. While working in the care sector, supporting those in need, I often found myself as a spectator in the world of sports. However, my true ambition was to enter the fitness industry, where I believe I can utilise my skills and reach my full potential. Since 2020, I have been pursuing a BSc (Honours) in Sports, Fitness, and Coaching at university while working full-time, graduating in 2026. I have now embarked on a Level 2 Gym Instructing course with a focus on women's health and plan to complete my Level 3 Personal Fitness course as well.
Identifying My Niche
As I immersed myself further into the coaching field, I understood the significance of identifying my niche. During my studies, I explored different areas and discovered a genuine passion for women's health. It is a broad field with ongoing research that is just scraping the surface.
Education and Certification: Building a Strong Foundation
To become a qualified trainer, I knew I needed formal education and certification. I researched various coaching programs and chose one accredited by Active IQ and NCFE . This decision was crucial, as it provided me with a solid foundation in coaching principles and ethics.
The Training Process
The training program is intense but rewarding. It included:
Theoretical Learning: Understanding coaching models, techniques, and ethics.
Practical Application: Engaging in practice sessions with peers to hone my skills.
Mentorship: Receiving guidance from experienced coaches who shared invaluable insights.
This comprehensive training equipped me with the tools I needed to succeed as a coach.
Gaining Experience: The Importance of Practice
As i complete my certification, I faced the daunting task of gaining experience. I started by offering free coaching sessions to friends and family. This not only helped me refine my skills but also built my confidence.
Overcoming Challenges: The Roadblocks I Faced
Every journey has its challenges, and mine was no exception. I encountered several obstacles that tested my resolve.
Imposter Syndrome
One of the biggest challenges I faced was imposter syndrome. Despite my training and initial successes, I often felt unqualified to coach others. I learned to combat this feeling by focusing on my strengths and reminding myself of the positive impact I was making in my clients' lives.
Balancing Work and Coaching
Initially, I juggled my coaching practice with a full-time job. This balancing act was exhausting, and I often felt overwhelmed. I learned to prioritise my time effectively, setting boundaries to ensure I dedicated sufficient time to both my job and my coaching practice.
Developing My Coaching Style: Finding My Voice
As I gained experience, I began to develop my unique coaching style. I realised that authenticity is key in coaching. My approach combines empathy, active listening, and practical strategies.
Incorporating Feedback
I actively sought feedback from my clients to improve my coaching methods. This openness to critique allowed me to refine my approach and better meet my clients' needs.
Continuing Education: The Journey Never Ends
The field of coaching is constantly evolving, and I understood the importance of lifelong learning. I committed to ongoing education by attending workshops, webinars, and conferences. This not only kept me updated on industry trends but also expanded my network.
Specialising Further
To enhance my expertise, I continue to pursue additional certifications in areas such as emotional intelligence and leadership coaching. These specialisations allow me to offer more comprehensive services to my clients.
Building a Community: The Power of Networking
Throughout my journey, I discovered the value of building a community of fellow coaches. Networking with other professionals provided support, collaboration opportunities, and a platform for sharing resources.
The Impact of Coaching: Transforming Lives
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a coach is witnessing the transformation in my clients. I have had the privilege of helping individuals overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and gain confidence in their abilities.
The Future: My Vision as a Trainer
As I look to the future, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. My goal is to expand my coaching practice and reach more individuals seeking guidance in their careers.
Offering Workshops and Group Coaching
I plan to offer workshops and group coaching sessions to create a supportive environment for individuals to learn and grow together. This approach not only fosters community but also allows for shared learning experiences.
So, take the first step today, your journey begins now. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and always strive to make a positive impact in your own live and the lives of others.
